VETERANS AWP OUTREACH ASSOCIATE

                                    (AWP Grant program currently funded 2015-2019)

AREA:                        WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

 

DEPARTMENT:        EDUCATION, TRAINING & EMPLOYMENT SERVICES (ETES)

 

DIVISION:                HUMAN SERVICES

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To provide transition services to exiting military personnel and their families; perform community outreach and employment services, and establish partnerships with local community resource organizations.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

 

Reports directly to the Veterans AWP Manager.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

 

None.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Provides transitional assistance to exiting active Military, Reserve, and National Guard personnel.

 

  1. Establishes outreach services with local military installations.

 

  1. Develops and distributes outreach materials to recruit veterans into AWP program. The specific focus of outreach is on the America's Warrior Partnership (AWP) Community Integration model, Enduring Independence (EI), and other veteran community services.

 

  1. Provides training and information to community agencies regarding America's Warrior Partnership (AWP) Community Integration model, Enduring Independence (EI), and other veteran community services.

 

  1. Develops and maintains working relationships with community agencies, service members, transitioning warriors, and their families.

 

  1. Maintains clear, standardized records of veterans served and results.

 

  1. Organizes and participates in community activities and events that have high visibility for service members, transitioning warriors, and their families, such as Yellow Ribbon events, community gatherings, local government flag raisings, etc. 

 

  1. Assists service members, transitioning warriors, and their families understand, apply for, and utilize their benefits.

 

  1. Works overtime as needed.

 

  1. Drives on company business.

 

  1. Performs other job related duties as required.

 

  1. Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Reports any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of company property.

 

  1. Acts safely at all times, following all safety rules and regulations.

 

  1. Follows all company policies and procedures.

 

  1. Promotes and demonstrates cooperation and teamwork. Assists and shares knowledge and information with other employees as needed.

 

  1. Uses good interpersonal skills such as courtesy, sensitivity, politeness, and thoughtfulness.

 

  1. Works with, trains, and/or acts as a good example for program participants receiving training at Goodwill.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, e.g., human services, social work, or equivalent experience.

 

  1. Prior experience in community outreach and placement services.

 

  1. Prior military service preferred.

 

  1. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

 

  1. Effective grammar, English, and writing skills.

 

  1. PC Proficiency in MS Office.

 

  1. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

  1. Ability to accept responsibility, take initiative, problem-solve and exercise good judgment.

 

  1. Ability to be flexible and adaptable in handling interruptions and variation.

 

  1. Reliable transportation, a valid California driver's license, and auto liability insurance acceptable to Goodwill's insurance company.
