Assist truck driver with loading and unloading trucks, providing driving directions, and guidance to driver when backing up and parking the truck. Delivers and stacks merchandise on customer's premises and collects payment or obtains receipt for goods.


Reports directly to the Transportation Logistics Manager. Receives daily work direction from the truck driver when on route.




1. Assists the truck driver and/or Dock personnel in loading and unloading donated items from trucks, as directed by Dock Supervisor.

2. Assists driver in preparation of TSV (trailer seal verification) via on-line application or paper form, and assists in verifying load requirements.

3. Assist in padding, stacking, strapping, and securing gaylords and/or cages, equipment or other items for transport into position on truck to prevent damage during shipment.

4. Uses pallets jacks and/or forklift to unload/load trucks at warehouse, company locations, or other locations as assigned.

5. Acts as spotter using GOAL (get out and look) procedure, providing the driver directions when backing up or in situations of low or close clearances or when encountering "blind side" hazards.

6. Assists in setting and removing wheel chock, cones, dock chain, and dock ramp while loading/ unloading.

7. Ensures the truck has all necessary pallet jacks, straps/tie-down equipment, and if necessary, mail bags or supplies loaded before leaving the yard.

8. Assists driver using company provided cellular phone to communicate and/or input pertinent information into fleet management, internal company, and other software applications (APPs) as required for direction, job assignments, routing, and documenting transportation activity.

9. Assists driver in ensuring truck is loaded per listed production or service request requirement.

10. Coordinates with retail store staff for deliveries and pickup of gaylord and/or cages from store staging area.

11. Assists driver in keeping interior of truck clean and organized, ensuring all standard tools and
equipment are in truck such as wheel chock, straps, and traffic cones.

12. Upon completion of road test, may be required to serve as backup Class C driver, if requested.

13. Upon completion of training and company certification, may be required to operate a Forklift.

14. Safeguards company property, including donated goods including ensuring truck is locked while

15. Reports any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of company property to Asset Protection.

16. Assists in reporting any moving violations, traffic accidents and/or damages to trucks to Asset

As a Truck Helper, you may be trained to drive Class C or Class A trucks. If so, you will need to meet the GOC's Drivers Job Description (JD) requirements, including background check, acceptable CA DMV driving record, documented road test, insurance, and any other
requirements as noted in JD. This training component is not guaranteed to anyone and is based on employee's current performance. In addition, if you drive a GOC vehicle, a pay adjustment may be made based on current wages and wages commensurate the rate for the type of driving you are performing.


1. Must be twenty-one years of age.

2. High School diploma or GED desired, but not required.

3. No experience necessary; will train.

4. Ability to communicate and understand English well enough to receive work and safety instructions and answer questions, as well as communicate effectively with management, co-workers, program participants, and the general public.

5. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

6. Ability to use in-cab GPS system.

7. Must be willing to be certified in forklift operation.

8. Valid CA driver's license and DMV record acceptable to Goodwill's insurance company.


Uses hand truck, pallet jack and wheeled carts, company approved leather gloves, steel toed work boots, back brace/belt, GPS, pens, forms, and other moving supplies; cellular device and applicable software applications including email, text, voice mail, fleet management system and internal online system tools. Forklift operation may be required.


1. Ability to work nights, days, or weekends, including overtime and schedule changes as required.

2. Full time position with five day, eight hour work schedule with consecutive or non-consecutive days off. Scheduling is based upon the needs and requirements of transportation operations.
