To supervise the physical therapy team (including Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, PT students, and PTA students) working in the Fitness Center, manage all patient scheduling details, and oversee client documentation and billing processes; to provide evaluation and treatment of people with neurological, orthopedic, and general medical diagnoses.



Reports directly to the Vice President of Human Services.



Will supervision of Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, PT students, and PTA students, and Fitness Center staff as assigned.




  1. Develops, supervises, and evaluates physical therapy treatment services to members (with Medicare, third party payers or private pay clients) as prescribed by their attending physicians with a goal of optimizing functional restoration and rehabilitation. 


  1. Responsible for the coordination and scheduling of client appointments, cancellations, and changes on treatment calendar.


  1. Oversees all client documentation (via WebPT software) including treatment plans, daily chart notes, and billing documentation. Obtains necessary insurance documentation from each client to facilitate efficient billing practices.


  1. Responsible to develop and monitor Physical Therapy program budget.


  1. Works with local colleges to develop PT and PT Assistant students programs.


  1. Promotes the Fitness Center and networks with potential community referral sources.


  1. Instructs, motivates, and assists members to learn and improve functional activities such as perambulation, transfer, ambulation, and daily living activities.


  1. Confers with physical therapists and other Fitness Center team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs. 


  1. Performs other job related duties as required. 


  1. Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Reports any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of company property.

  1. Promotes and demonstrates cooperation and Assists and shares knowledge of all information with other employees as needed.


  1. Uses good interpersonal skills such as courtesy, sensitivity, politeness, and thoughtfulness.




  1. Bachelors or Masters or DPT Degree in Physical Therapy


  1. Current licensure with the Physical Therapy Board of California


  1. Certification as a Credentialed Clinical Instructor (CCI) by the American Physical Therapy Association, or willingness to obtain this credential within 1 month of being hired.


  1. Previous supervisory experience required


  1. Current CPR certification


  1. Excellent verbal and written skills


  1. Effective time management abilities


  1. Knowledge of use and operation of all gym equipment


  1. Strong professional philosophy including the role of exercise as a therapeutic intervention




Various office supplies and equipment including: telephone, fax machine, computer, printer, copy machine, file cabinets, papers/forms, calendar, pens/pencils, ruler, scissors, etc.


Must be comfortable working with and operating a variety of fitness equipment including treadmills, stationary bicycles, rowing machines, etc. The ability to work with various commercial strength training pieces of equipment with adaptive pieces and accessories will also be expected of the head trainer.
